Piano Karma

I found it in a garage in response to the news add “free if you come and get it”. I was young in my 30s my daughters under feet. Mike and 2 other 6’ young men struggled to get it in the front door, up the steps, the door jams broke, had to remove a broken door, lots of cussing. But it adorned our newly sanded white pine floors and brought abundant joy from Suzuki to Beethoven, the wee ones, and the concert pianists. From once being a huge player piano, to having its internal workings removed. It had broken legs and it needed to be stripped because its varnish bubbled from being left in the rain and in someone’s garage. Underneath the key cover it was like new. So, we went to work and had real new ivory keys put on it and tuned it up. It became our best friend in our living room. And when everything was changing and rearranging its mighty weight and strong grounding memories held us all together and gave us hope. It was in the huge Ryder truck when we said our goodbyes to the house and the pine trees. It was like taking the house with us. We tried to get it into our new little apartment but the cussing started again so I rented special storage for it. Two moves later Leo offered to store it in his living room. Now Leo is forced to move and the daughter that was underfoot when it first arrived is a grown woman expecting her first child and she is asking for the piano. Dear strong melodious friend. Thank you for showing us the rewards of demanding joy in our lives.
